2009 TJF/PTA Engagement Challenge Grant Application
The Jefferson Foundation believes that great schools have great community support. To help Jeffco PTAs raise funds from new sources and get new faces involved in school communities, The Jefferson Foundation is offering a new TJF/PTA Engagement Challenge Grant. The grant is designed to help PTAs spark participation and investment in their schools among neighbors, community leaders and businesses who have not been involved in school activities in the past.
Grants will be made to address important programs or projects where The Jefferson Foundation’s support can have a significant impact. Engagement Challenge Grant funds will be distributed at a public, school-based event of your choosing (such as a Back-to-School Night, school open house, sporting event, etc.). The Jefferson Foundation staff will make a challenge to attendees and will match all donations made at the event up to $2,000.
Applications must be typed and single-spaced. A complete application package must include one copy of a cover letter describing the public event at which you would like to announce the challenge opportunity (please remember to include time, date and location), the Applicant Summary, and a two-page proposal addressing the questions below. The deadline for this grant program is August 22, 2009.
- Please describe you school’s student population. What are the biggest challenges or issues facing your students and their families in 2009-2010?
- Please describe the program or project your PTA is seeking funding for during the 2009-2010 school year. What is the goal for the program or project? Why do you believe this program or project will help meet the needs of your students and families? What will be the specific activities or strategies for the program or project?
- What measures will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the project/program (i.e. test scores, attendance rates, increased parental involvement)?
- What is the school or District providing to support this project (space, staff, equipment, etc.)?
- Will the school or District be required to continue this project after this grant funding ends? If yes, please explain the District’s financial responsibility to continue the project.
- What opportunities to become involved in your school will your program or project provide to the community surrounding the school? How will you engage support from the community for this program or project and for other school activities?

NOTE: If your school has received a Jefferson Foundation grant in the past, you are still eligible for a 2009 TJF/PTA Engagement Challenge Grant.
