The Jefferson Foundation Love Our Schools Luncheon raises over $30,000
April 23, 2012, Lakewood CO ~ More than 400 supporters of Jeffco Public
Schools and The Jefferson Foundation showed the love at the Foundation’s 3rd Annual Love Our Schools Luncheon. The event raised more than $30,000; proceeds will support The Jefferson Foundation’s programs in Jeffco Public Schools.
The event honored Michael Coughlin, owner of 240 Union Restaurant in Lakewood, for his years of philanthropy in Jefferson County with the Norma Anderson Lifetime Service Award. Recognizing that providing a
venue for fundraising would be an important way to support his community, Coughlin has opened 240 Union to hundreds of events to raise awareness and support for the work done by local and regional nonprofit organizations.
Through the restaurant, Coughlin has helped fundraise for The Jefferson Foundation, the Hospice of St. John, the American Cancer Society, the National Kidney Foundation, the West Chamber Serving Jefferson County, Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology Research, Denver
Zoological Foundation, Red Rocks Community College Foundation, the Second Wind Fund and more.
“Michael actually founded The Jefferson Foundation’s Eat for Education fundraising event,” said Katie Tiernan, executive director of the foundation. “Once a year since for more than a decade, he has literally given us his restaurant so we can
raise money for Jeffco Public Schools.”
240 Union fundraising events have resulted in more than $40,000 in donations and invaluable exposure to potential individual and corporate supporters for The Jefferson Foundation.
Coughlin and 240 Union will again support The Jefferson Foundation and Jeffco Public Schools with an Eat for Education event on Tuesday, May 15. The restaurant will donate 25% of each bill, all day long, to The Jefferson Foundation. Reservations are available by calling 303-989-3562.

The Love Our Schools Luncheon also featured entertainment by Ken Caryl Middle School’s Ken Caryl Players and the Mantastic 4 quartet from Arvada West High School.
The event was stolen, however, by a touching address from Arvada West graduating senior and Mantastic 4 member Connor Bottke, who is also a winner of The Jefferson Foundation’s 2012
My Student, My Hero award. Connor expressed his gratitude for the people in Jeffco Public Schools who have supported him and his family throughout his school years. His moving tribute ended with the statement that Jeffco Public Schools have prepared him for the world he will face as an adult.
“We want Connor’s experience of love, support and opportunity in Jeffco Public Schools to be every student’s story,” Tiernan said. “We can do that with the help of our community,
and we’re just so grateful.”
