Press Release: Lola and V. Robert Salazar receive the Sol Trujillo Award

SalazarsMarch 7, 2005, Denver, CO ~ The Sol Trujillo National Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Lola and V. Robert Salazar at the annual Latin American Education Foundation (LAEF) black-tie gala “Noche de Estrellas: Night of Stars” on Saturday, March 5th. LAEF presented over 220 college scholarships at the event.

Named after the former US West CEO for his contributions to metro-area civic groups, the Sol Trujillo Award is presented annually to individuals who demonstrate a commitment to education or youth development.

Lola Salazar began her career as a teacher at Pennington Elementary in Wheat Ridge, and has been a lifelong advocate for education. She is an active board member of several foundations, including The Jefferson Foundation. A past recipient of an LAEF scholarship, Rob Salazar is a real estate entrepreneur. His latest project is the purchase of Denver’s landmark Regency Hotel. The development will provide the first student housing community for Auraria Campus students.

In 1999, with the establishment of the Salazar Family Foundation, the Salazars have made a positive impact on many children’s futures through supporting other foundations committed to student scholarship, literacy, and teacher classroom grants. During the past few years Salazar Family Foundation has provided nearly half a million dollars to Hispanic students across the state. In addition, the Salazar Family Foundation supports the Denver Public Schools Foundation, the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts and The Jefferson Foundation.
